How it began
My final costume and the start of the button obsession.
As part of my recreation of an Elizabethan Gentlemans outfit using historical techniques and near enough the same type of fabric, I had to learn to also recreate the buttons that were used. My outfit was from Janet Arnolds Patterns of Fashion 3 and due to her meticulous research, information and drawings that set me on the journey to learn how to recreate the buttons needed.
Since then I have researched and recreated a few different styles and have figured out that there are three types that are my favourites.
